I woke up from this dream last night with my heart racing. After getting into an argument with a good friend and a trip home which included avoiding the death rays of giant alien robots attempting to destroy all humans (it was a bad night for dreams), the dream faded into this one:
I came in the door to my house (which was nothing like my house, but in the dream, it was my house) and immediately stripped down to my underwear because I was going to bed. I don't usually do that in the kitchen, but okay. I am doing a few little things before bed when I notice a man, also in his underwear, standing at the foot of the stairs, looking back at me. At the same time, we both exclaim, "Who the hell are you?" He takes off running up the stairs and I take off after him. He has a good lead on me and by the time I get up the stairs he is in my bedroom, has gotten around the bed and is apparently trying to open the window on the other side of the bed to escape. That's when I had a moment of clarity. It is a second story window with nothing below it but Earth. Nobody would jump out that window to escape. He's spending a long time fumbling with it and still not getting it open. I look at the bed. The covers are messed up, but my wife is not there. Suddenly I realized that I had no idea where my family was and no idea who this man was, but things certainly were not what they seemed. I realized this was a ruse and there was likely a second man waiting behind the door for me. I stood there, not knowing what to do. I was unarmed and in my underwear, I had no phone to call for help and they would take too long anyway, I HAD to know where my family was and, if they were here somewhere, I couldn't leave them with the intruder(s) and I could not go in there and beat the information out of this man because there was very likely another lying in wait. I awoke with my heart racing, very glad I hadn't had time to come to a decision. I have no guns in the house, so my only choice would have been to run, but I simply couldn't do that, leaving my family there. The children's rooms were across the hall. I didn't know if they were there or not, but if I went in to check I would be trapped in the room when the bad guys came in behind me and still would be no help to my family. I wanted nothing more than to find them, but knew that I would not be allowed to do so.
As I said, this dream SUCKED! |

I would have kicked the door really hard, at least then if there was someone behind it, if you didn't hurt him, you at least destroyed his element of surprise. And the other guy was in his underwear like you, so he would have been on equal ground as you, equally unarmed, etc.
But all in all, it sounds like you are having issues with making decision that may greatly effect your family, this is common because you're a married man, and in your world, your wife usually makes all the decisions and you just sit and nod in compliance with her every word. |

In the words of General James T. Conway, one of the better Commandants of the Marine Corps, "In the absence of orders, attack!"
Decisiveness and aggression can get you through a lot of situations all on their own. Sometimes, even doing the wrong thing well can help the situation.
By all means, kick the door so it bounces off the wall, charge the room, and take out the known enemy while keeping an eye out for the unknown. Get your bearing and move on from there.
If it is indeed as Raven says, and you have questions about what to do in your family life the advice still holds. Make a decision that seems at least good based on the information you have, and move towards that goal. If the situation changes, you can adjust but at least you are doing something that has a potential benefit. |

My dreams don't generally tend to match any psychoanalysis that I have ever had applied to them. I just have weird dreams. Many times I wake up from a dream thinking that it would make a good story or a good plot in a movie. I have always loved movies...at least before everything coming out started sucking so bad as they seem to these days.
No drama, no crisis, no decisions, just one weird ass dream after another that night. When my dreams mean something, it is generally pretty obvious to me. Usually they're just for fun, or, as in this case, just the opposite. |
