Ever have 'em?

When I was a kid, sometime after first grade but before fourth grade I used to have the same nightmare over and over.

I was walking home from school (catholic school, in uniform) and I would start being chased by these guys in suits, at least half a dozen. Think MIB's. I'd run, and start to pull away but everytime as I would pass this pharmacy my running would slow, like I was running through molasses. Even though I was taking full length strides I would be pulled back at the same time, only advancing a few inches.

Meanwhile the MIB's were catching up of course, and as soon as they were about to grab my shoulder the dream would 'reset', and I would be back by the corner at school, the MIB's would be far behind me, and I would start running full speed again.

I'd get to the pharmacy and everything would slow again, the MIB's would catch up, reset, etc... Not only would the dream do this over and over, I would have this dream all the time for years.

Maybe there was some symbolism to it I am only getting now? Come to think of it, the MIB's always seemed to have an almost Nehru-like suit jacket and starched white shirts underneath, that now reminds me of a clerical collar.
I think it's interesting I was running AWAY from the school, and in fact the dream always started with me at the corner, right across the street from the schools associated church. I did attend this school in real life, which is why I know the years I had this dream.

I was also always in uniform during this dream, which consisted of navy blue (black for all intents and purposes) pants, a white shirt, and black tie. I do remember feeling like it was something to do with the uniform that made me slow down so they could almost catch me.

The dreams seemed to have stopped after I left that school and went to public school. I had already long decided I didn't believe in the catholic religion though at the time I wasn't ready to totally dismiss God out of hand. That took a few more years and some deeper thinking, but for all practical purposes I was at least functionally agnostic by second grade or so.

Maybe the dream represents me running away from the church and not wanting to be another one of the guys in suits.

And no Glenn, the priest never touched me in a my no-no place...

I wouldn't say it's the same dream over and over, but I definitely have a recurring theme.

My worst nightmares revolve around me not being able to act to help others. Can't swing my firearm around in time, can't swim fast enough to get to someone who is drowning, not strong enough to pull someone up from an abyss.

Hate 'em.

The only nightmares i ever really have are about something happening to either my son or my girlfriend. those seem to be about the only fears i have that surface while i'm sleeping.
I used'to have the whole cliche falling from high places, or car flying off a bridge type dreams, but then i thought myself to like them, and hence take control of them... and they don't really classify as nightmares anymore. the only thing that sucked is when my car almost did fly off a bridge in real life... that really screws with a person's perception of reality...

I think you were reliving and abduction by MIBs from your youth which was wiped from your memory. It's a well known fact that the memory wipe is not complete and can come undone in part or in whole (it's true because I said it was well known and called it a fact, as if it could be proven wink). You should find a shady hypnotherapist who will manufacture...I mean, recover lost memories for you to see what really happened. Oh and, not to alarm you or anything, but you probably have several implants and are being tracked. Maybe God isn't watching when you spank it, but someone is.

see Yaish, if you would have just slowed down you could have had your first wet dream

We I was younger I used to have a dream about a guy who was trying to kill me. The man was middle age, overwieght, balding, and a cyclops. In the dream we would end up fighting (with swords), but something part us. For some reason I knew that I was connected to this guy in some way, but I didn't know how.
After having these dreams over and over for several months I finally was able to kill the man in them. Never had another one.

Now I have had a similar dream 3 or 4 times now where I have to defend myself, but nothing seems to work. In one dream I attack the the guy that is a danger to me( I believe I was being held hostage) while he is watching TV. I shoot him in the back of the head with a 30.06 only to have him keep laughing at what he is watching.

G, you really shouldn't follow a sentence about having a wet dream with a paragraph about a dream with a fat, balding one-eyed man coming after you. For a bit there I wasn't sure I wanted to read on.

You know the ones I hate. I'm mad as hell and want to smack the piss outta someone( i am not a fighter anymore) and when I swing it's like ineffectual or something. And then I wake up pissed off cause whoever I was mad at, needed a good smack!!!

Lol. Nice catch, asmodee.

I have a recurring dream theme of survival. I'm either on the top floor of a building as it collapses, where I kind of ride it down and land on my feet, surprised that the floor I'm on remains intact and I walk out unscathed. There never seems to be anyone on the lower floors.

Or, I'm on a boat, where I'm standing up and riding out enormous waves. I keep telling myself that I'm going to survive, even though I'm scared as hell, until I finally find myself in calmer water.

Only 2 things scare me in my dreams. In one, I am up on some high place and there is no way down, like a platform on the end of a pole or something. The other is poorly lit rooms. Have you ever seen a fluorescent light that doesn't turn on all the way and it's really dim? The room will be lit by only that or only the glow of a monitor or something. I have very poor vision at dusk, but day and night are fine, so that's probably where that comes from.

I used to have dreams about one of my kids falling off something and the horror of making my way down to them to see if they are even alive. My third kid is accident prone. He's fallen down the steps plenty of times, hit his head so much he had a permanent lump on the front of his forehead (he used to say "hi" by walking up to people and head butting them, usually in the crotch. He also did it to walls and doors) and had so many bumps and scrapes that I finally realized they're as hard to kill as cockroaches, so I haven't had that dream in a while. Hell, that kid got his hand caught in a car door just yesterday.

I remember that one, happened a few years later. Some girl in a plaid shirt, jean skirt, and we were in a barn on a pile of hay.

I have dreams kinda like that, but i can usually force myself to take control of those. Basically anything that i can easily figure out is a dream is something i can take control of easily... and since i know i'm a trained fighter who should be beyond capable of killing this guy without effort, i know that anything else has to be a dream.
