You prolly got it, but the point was, that many like to act as though we have plenty of oil, if only we'd drill. If only we'd open long protected wilderness. If only we'd open long protected habitat, fragile ecosystems, allow "some" development, we'd be able to reduce our dependance on foriegn oil.
Note those figures. Bakken is considerd "massive", very large. and the like. And even with a 5-10 fols increase in drilling, it has potential for a 23 day supply of oil at our current usage rate? Equating to a 1-2% reduction in our need for outside sources?
So, how is this supposed to make a real dent in our dependancy on foriegn oil?
If I saw that we were sitting on massive deposits that literally could at the very least, cut our dependance vy 30% or more, I'd be all for it. Of course being the tree hugger I am, I'd still want damn good regulations and controls, but it would be too worth it to reasonably argue against. But no better than 5% at the very best? And this is supposed to be bigger than Alaskas potential? |
