For those who remember the special A & E showed, this is now a series version of it...
http://www.aetv.com/psychic-kids/
| Quote: | On the heels of the extremely successful inaugural season of the A&E series "Paranormal State," the network will premiere "Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal" on Monday, June 16th 10:00PM ET/9C. When your child comes to you and says, "I see dead people." What do you do with that information? There are parents who are scared and isolated with problems that they often keep quiet - issues dealing with their children's paranormal abilities. Now, thanks to Medium Chip Coffey and renowned psychologist and Columbia University professor, Dr. Lisa Miller, help is on the way. Each one-hour episode features three kids who ultimately are brought together by Chip and Lisa to learn how to cope with their gifts and to realize they are not alone.
Medium Chip Coffey utilizes both his abilities in the paranormal and his Masters Degree in Psychology when he deals with children who are showing signs of possessing psychic and medium abilities. Chip aims to help the children with the supernatural phenomenon he or she is experiencing: how to manage this lifelong "gift" and the burdens that sometimes go along with the paranormal abilities. Dr. Lisa helps the children and families deal with the inter-family conflict they may be experiencing.
From seeing dead people to frightening abilities to predict the future, Chip and Lisa will uncover the truths and help the terrified and gifted. In the end, "Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal," is an intense journey of a medium and a psychologist, who draw on their own personal experiences, training, and unique outlook on life to teach troubled kids how to deal with what they often feel is a curse, as much as a unique and special gift. |
Starts Mon, Jun 16... |

| I think that's a great idea. Let's take children who already have trouble dealing with reality and turn them into a circus side show while at the same time validating their imaginary friends as being real entities with hopes and dreams. We just have to make sure that no one messes with the heads of these kids and explains what the really real is to them. |

| yep... and if you watched the original special, at least a few of the kids could easily be analyzed to have a borderline psychosis... so... you know... lets go ahead and push them passed that border... |

I didn't see the original, but I have seen it before. The kids grow up being weirdos and freaks. One entire branch of my family is that way. 2nd cousins, I think. One pot head though he had the neighbors convinced that he was a vampire until he made the mistake of taking the garbage out during the day once. That was the same one who tried to convince me that he had a black light laser site that would actually put a black dot on the target. His sister had similar delusions. In one a vampire came to her every night and bit her on the breast. In another Fabio and some other famous male model who wouldn't have looked twice at an awkward 15 year old killed each other in a fight for her love. All of these stories were told as if the teller really believed that the average person could be convinced of this. Their father used to tell me stories about leaving his body and visiting alien worlds. He even once told me of a past life not on Earth where he was teaching his sister how to fight with swords. She didn't do as she was told and he accidentally lopped her head of. There was no remorse because she hadn't listened. It was her own fault. Oh, and vampire boy also once tried to convince me that he left his body with pot seeds in his hand and went to an alien planet, where he planted them and made them grow instantly. All the inhabitants of the planet thanked him for this wonderful plant. When he came back to his body the seeds were gone.
So, yeah, I've seen it before. I'm sure that many of these kids are more intelligent than vampire boy or his twit sister (that is not the norm for my family, by the way; just this immediate branch. Most of us are just WAY full of shit), but it can't be good for them, just the same. |

I finally watched it after it went stail on my DVR for a day, along with the show Psychic Children (which is also A&E and about the same nature, but slightly different).
Well... it wasn't as bad as the special was, but it wasn't a whole lot better either. Their were some moments that made me go "hmmm" for at least one reason or another... when involving Chip, it was usually for another (that dude is just really not normal and he just really bugs me)...
And now, i have 3 eps of Good Eats that have been collecting digital-dust for awhile that i will use to clense my brain of Medium Chip Coffey (Hob, i forgot to give you a karma for that early, but because it still makes me laugh my ass off everytime i think about it, i'll be sure to give you 2 now)... |
